All About Double Duvet Covers

Comforters in the US are basically the same as duvet covers in the UK.  Both are bedding accessories usually filled with goose down feathers or wool.  One exception to the UK duvet cover set is the removable covering.  The covering unzips like a sleeping bag, buttons or ties.  An available double duvet cover set offers extra warmth and comfort.  Different sizes such as king, queen, and full, designs and bold colors are available as well.

In warmer months the down or wool insert can be removed while the outer cover serves as a lighter bedspread covering.  Washing instructions are simple depending on the fabric.  Unlike comforters sold in America the removal of the insert makes the double duvet covers easy to fit into the washer.  This could eliminate trips to the public laundry facilities to use larger machines as required with most comforters.  Some even require dry cleaning.

Replacing the insert can present a challenge the first couple of times.  Placing the bottom corners into place by sliding the arm in the duvet will help to smooth out the lumps that my be present.  Once the bottom corners are secure, the duvet can be picked up and shaken to smooth remaining lumps.  The double duvet cover set my take a couple minutes longer to reinsert.

A couple of great features of the duvet versus the comforter is the reversibility and ability to switch the fabric.  Redecoration requires less hassle as well as expense of a new bed covering.  Homemade versions are great as family heirlooms.  Quilting is a great craft to learn and presents an excellent opportunity for family bonding.  Some duvet sets with delicate fabrics and extra stuffing may sometime require a little more effort.  With proper care however, the single and double duvet cover set can last at least a couple of generations; maybe more.
