A DIY Guide on How to Create A Custom Made Wall Key Hanger
Having a hard time finding a wall key holder that suits your taste? If so, then why not create your own custom made wall key hanger. Though there are companies that offer custom services for key hangers, doing it on your own will offer you bigger savings. Besides, coming up with one is not that difficult. You just have to be creative and allow your imagination to run wild. On that regard, here is a quick guide on how to make a simple yet stylish key hanger.
Before you get started, you have to first prepare or acquire the following materials:
• Black and brown craft paint
• Mod podge, foam brush, and sand paper
• 9×12 wood board (available in any nearby hardware store)
• Decorative papers
• 8-1 inch hooks
• 8-1 ¼ inch, and 4-1 ¾ inch washers
• Industrial glue, oil rubber bronze spray paint (or any paint color that you prefer)
• Type writer font, picture hangers, and letter stickers
• Cream and black card stock
After preparing the above-mentioned materials, it is now time to begin with your personalized key hook holder project.
Firstly, you have to sand the board’s edges. Next, combine the black and brown craft paint until you come up with a mixture that is close to the color of the oil bronze paint. Using a foam brush, apply the combined paint mixture to the board’s edges. Use a couple of coats until the edges are fully covered. Then, use the sand paper again to rough up the edges a little more.
When done, line the decorative papers on the surface of the wood board. Make sure to cover the entire board but leave a 2 ¼ inch space at the top for the heading. To make the board look antiquated, you can mod podge the paper to give it a unique antique tint.
Cut out a strip of black card stock, and use it to cover the top space of the board. Next, cut a cream card stock but this time a bit smaller than the first one. Stick it on top of the black card stock to create a black border. Mod podge on the card stock like what you did earlier.
Come up with any label that you like. You can put your name or simply the word ‘KEYS’. Attach 4 big washers on the top part of the board which will hold the label. Meanwhile, use the smaller washers as accents for your key hooks. After that, attach the hooks at the center of the washers. Decorate the surrounding part of the washer in any way you want. Introduce some extra coat of paint to create uniform look.
Do not forget to attach the picture hanger at the back of the board, and be sure to allow the paint to dry completely. Once done, you are now ready to mount your personalized key hanger near your door’s entrance or on your kitchen wall so you can start organizing your keys.
